Philippine Blockchain Week

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) have announced their endorsement of the Philippine Blockchain Week (PBW) 2023. The upcoming event is scheduled to be held from September 19 to 21, 2023, at the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Newport World Resorts, Manila, Philippines.

During the conference, DICT Director Emmy Lou Delfin and DTI Director Jo-Dann Darong emphasized the significance of the Philippine Blockchain Week in advancing collaboration, innovation, and digitization in the country, aligning with the government's objectives.

Statistics reveal that approximately 6.13 percent of the total population of the Philippines, nearly 7 million individuals, currently own cryptocurrencies, while 32 percent of Filipino internet users possess non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Donald Lim, the founding president of the Blockchain Council of the Philippines (BCP) and lead convenor of the Philippine Blockchain Week, expressed optimism that the country is on track to becoming a global blockchain capital.

The event is expected to attract thousands of participants from diverse industries and regions worldwide and will bring together influential leaders from the blockchain and cryptocurrency sectors. With the theme "BRKOUT," this year's Philippine Blockchain Week aims to inspire individuals to break free from conventions and comfort zones, embrace new opportunities, and emerge as leaders in the blockchain space.

Reflecting the current state of the industry, the event will feature in-depth discussions on topics such as blockchain, fintech, the metaverse, regulation, artificial intelligence, privacy, and decentralized finance (DeFi).

Delfin announced that the DICT will lead Blockchain 101, an educational initiative targeting thousands of students in the National Capital Region to promote industry opportunities. Additionally, the DICT plans to hold focus group discussions with government officials to encourage the adoption of blockchain technology for storing government data.

Darong expressed support for a comprehensive approach involving all segments of society to integrate blockchain technology into various industries.
